Editorial Policy: How Iceburg Wealth Researches and Writes

This editorial policy explains how I research, write and update the guides, calculators and tools on Iceburg Wealth. I’m Callum Scott, and I write everything on the site myself, so this is simply how I work.

Who writes Iceburg Wealth

Every guide is written by me. I have worked since I was 14, I run my own manufacturing business as a sole director, and I have invested in dividend shares and buy to let property for around ten years. I have no formal finance qualifications. Instead, I learned by doing, and I write about the things I deal with in real life. You can read more about me and Iceburg Wealth.

Our editorial policy on facts and figures

Money rules change often, so I use official sources wherever I can. These include:

  • GOV.UK and HMRC for tax, benefits and legal rules
  • The Office for National Statistics for prices, wages and the economy
  • The Bank of England for interest rates and inflation
  • The FCA, MoneyHelper and the Pension Service for financial products and pensions
  • Charity and industry reports, such as PDSA or wedding surveys, when no official figure exists

When a figure comes from a survey or my own estimate, I say so on the page. Calculators list their sources underneath, and tool data comes from free official sources only.

How I write and check guides

  • Plain English first. I explain things the way I would to a friend, without jargon.
  • Real experience. Where I have done something myself, such as paying myself as a director or living off dividends, I share what actually happened.
  • Official sources first. I aim to check tax rates, allowances and dates against the official source when I write or update a guide.
  • Clear dates. Every guide shows when it was last updated, so you can see how fresh it is.

Editorial policy on advertising and affiliate links

Iceburg Wealth is independent. Nobody pays to appear in a guide, and companies do not see or approve articles before they go live. The site earns money from adverts and may use affiliate links, which pay a small commission at no extra cost to you. However, that never decides what I recommend. Our affiliate disclosure explains this in full.

This is guidance, not financial advice

I’m not a regulated financial adviser, and nothing on Iceburg Wealth is personal advice. Guides explain how things work so you can make your own choices. For advice on your own situation, speak to a regulated adviser. You can also get free, impartial help from MoneyHelper. Please read our disclaimer too.

Corrections and feedback

I try hard to get things right, but mistakes can happen and rules change. If you spot an error or an out of date figure, please get in touch and tell me which page it is on. Genuine mistakes get fixed, in line with this editorial policy.
